In times of panic, stress, anxiety, pain and uncertainty, we continue to remain calm, focused and work to be wise. We continue to support and help those whom we are growing, mentoring, and training, with the end goal to build self-managing, sustainable programs which are alleviating poverty. We are back Stateside, and as with the rest of the world, not sure when we will be able to return to our work in Haiti or Kenya.
In Haiti we have been working for 2 years building sustainability and self sufficiency in the Grace Mission compound. Who could ever have imagined that the work we have been doing would lead to such a miraculous outcome.
In our absence, Grace Mission Academy is currently self managing and sustainable. With the global school closures, our kids are still able to continue and focus on their education in their normal environment. We just completed the Teen Recreation Center, and what a gift – the kids inside the compound have activities, an outlet for their energy in an unpredictable and volatile time and country. They all live in the Children’s Home in the compound, so they are a family, staying inside the compound, staying home. We were able to share Dave Ramsey’s Smart Money Smart Kids with them over a few months – encouraging them to save, give and to plan out their resources. We were able to provide many of the kids jobs in the compound – generating income and experience. These are only a few examples of the importance of our work, and how it is shaping and impacting the kids in the times we are in.
These past few years of training, preparing the kids in Haiti to self manage is in full action. They are ready and they’ve got this. This is a HUGE step for all in the Grace Mission compound to maintain normalcy, be wise and be prepared. It is quite miraculous to see that a few years of work has created such a strong, vibrant and focused outcome during this critical time. It is as though it was orchestrated all along…and nothing short of miraculous.
